Overview

The Opportunity:

The Finance Manager will provide leadership and oversight of the day-to-day financial and strategic operations of the Student Centre which is a not-for-profit organisation. Under direction from the Centre’s General Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing financial resources in an efficient, effective and sustainable manner. Regular updates and status reports to the General Manager and other managers on the financial and operational performance are expected along with proactive financial issue management and resolution. The Financial Manager will be responsible for day-to-day financial tracking and banking for Oakham Café, the Ram in the Rye Pub and Conference Services, maintaining and reconciling Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and Capital Asset subsidiary ledgers, manage cash flow and forecasting, and update and implement all necessary business policies and accounting practices. The Finance Manager is additionally responsible for maintaining the payroll and other personnel records for a staff compliment of approximately 120 unionised workers and assists in employee relations. The Manager will undertake financial analysis of the social enterprise initiatives and prepare associated reports, filings, and remittances. The Finance Manager assists with the preparation of the annual budget and with the annual audit process.

Qualifications:

You have a bachelor’s degree, preferably in business or accounting, with three to five years of progressive experience in the financial management and operation of a multi-million dollar not-for-profit food, beverage, or conference services organisation. Experience with SAGE accounting software, Silverware Point of Sale and Optimum Control inventory software is an asset. A strong verbal and written communicator, you have demonstrated experience supervising staff, preferably in a unionised environment. Your interpersonal skills, including tact, diplomacy, sound judgement, and professionalism will allow you to effectively build relationships with the Student Centre’s management and staff team, and the larger Ryerson and external communities.
